I was kind of going back and forth on whether I want to go see them on this upcoming tour, since I'd seen them the last two times they came to MI and the setlist was pretty much the same (except for the dope rendition of Asilos Magdalena!!). The second time was a bit weird and it seemed like Omar was frustrated and the jamming kind of suffered as a result IMO. But if this record is anything like people are saying it is, I might have to go to that show and take my little brother to get his face melted.

i listened to the album. one of the tracks is based on an instrumental from one of 2018 solo albums.
also, if you simply combine some of the tracks and transitions its actually a 12 track album similar to how omar would split songs on aranas en la sombra in half so it looks like its twice as more tracks
01 - Fin / Reina tormenta
02 - Enlazan Las Tinieblas
03 - Mictlan / Nefilbata
04 - Cue The Sun / Alba del orate
05 - Voice In My Knives
06 - Poseedora de mi sombra / Celaje
07 - Vocifero / Mito de los trece cielos
08 - Un Disparo al vacio / Detrás de la puerta dorada
09 - Maullidos
10 - Morgana
11 - Cue The Sun (reprise)
12 - Lucro Sucio

**Spoiler warning for closing track.**
I definitely enjoyed my second listen with headphones way more; I could appreciate all the little layers and details and panning and stuff. I want to try to enjoy this for what it is, and I think it almost reminds me of where they were going in their pre-Nocto era Jacob and Broken English jams with Deantoni. It's futuristic pop psychedelia that's more synth focused and groovy; there are really no guitar solos or crazy drum fills but the jams are more trance-like a la Flash Burns or the end of Graveyard Love. The only real flashy parts are a couple short sax solos, some delay bleep bloop shenaningans early on and like one real guitar break. I do feel like because my first listen was challenging (I was also sleep deprived) this will be more of a grower. Civil War Chocolates was always a standout Omar track to me (Gorilla Preacher Cartel has some other bangers as well) and it works well as a Volta track with a little bit of a throwback nod to the dub influences but I couldn't help but wish the closer was something entirely new.

The way the tracks are split is definitely going to be an obstacle for me in remembering the song names lol

I finally got through my first listen (on headphones) after settling for the morning and I have to say these guys never cease to surprise and amaze me! This will be another divisive album for some fans though, however, that comes with the territory of being a TMV fan. Lucro is definitely more in the direction of S/T than TMV of old but I love S/T so I have no issue with this. The guitar is practically nonexistent in this album but it is not needed with what they are able to emote. It is hard to tie Lucro to a specific genre but it has shorter proggy tracks but it is heavily textured and definitely a grower! After the first listen, I really dug Enlazan, cue the sun (both), disparo and lucro. That being said the interludes are so unique and great everything that is added on this album clearly belongs on it. Looking forward to hearing this one on the 100th listen!!! Also, so curious about the lineup for this album as well.

Feel like this is going to be even more divisive than S/T or Octo were. What a strange little gift they've given us.
Can't wait to start digging through lyrics, this definitely reeks of Concept Album and I'm curious to know exactly what's going on.

I could be way off base but from the times I was focusing on the lyrics I feel like it (or parts) could be about how having something heavy in your mind so long effects you after all is said and done, and trying to detangle yourself from that.
I absolutely adore this album right now. First listen had me CONFUSED which is a great sign for a new TMV album imo. The old records all took some time to worm their way into my brain.
It feels like it was constructed and put together with a similar approach to their 'classic' early albums but with the songwriting of LP7 if that makes any sense?
Like the individual song sections feel like they come from that recent place, but how all the pieces of the tracks fit together and transition is a lot more early TMV.
But I don't really think it sounds like LP7 at all, there is a lot more strangeness throughout the record I feel, a lot more solo-ORL level avant garde-ness.
The actual sonics of the album are so different as well, the live drum sound is so much more organic and natural vs the layered sample augmented drum sound on LP7.
I love hearing the ambition in this album, and while I really love the albums from Octohedron through LP7, I can't deny it does feel super special to hear a new album that feels like it's slightly more in the family tree of DitC - tBiG.

Yeah my first reaction being confusion is a good thing, usually a sign that there's a lot to digest and that it will be a very rewarding album. A lot of the album is very slow and my initial concerns are that some of the earlier sparser pieces are a little too mininal to avoid getting dull, but who knows how many layers will unfurl themselves on repeat listens? Very exciting.

This album is perfect. It’s all the best parts of the self titled expanded. I can’t wait to give this a headphones listen.

Thanks to all those helping everyone out.
This album has the most beautiful music they're ever wrote.
It feels like this Drunkship jam extended out to a full album:

All these little quiet bits of their live sets I've always adored, so excited to get the actual copy of this.

Quoting myself from june 2023, first page of this thread :
And more seriously, I'm expecting something that tend to a jazzy, rnb vibe. I'm also wishing they go back to proposing surprising, interesting song structures, without needing 15 minutes track for that.
I definetely got what I wanted
This one is a very strange beast... I love it.

Do you guys think the band will do anything about the leak? Or they dont care about a couple of nerds listening early? Maybe they might drop this on streaming soonish? Or maybe it leaked because it was gonna be a surprise release

It's a Record Store Day release, maybe it's tied up in that? I think releasing it ASAP for digital download and streaming is the smart move, but who knows how feasible that is.

I noticed a lot of bands release digital first and physical several months later. So they can easily drop it on streaming tomorrow

Yeah I wish they'd do that, or at least make a clear statement regarding that. I mean people who are not aware of the new album will start looking for infos as soon as it is announced and will find out about the leak anyway so... April is still two months away and the excitement won't be the same for the fanbase since we already got it, you know.
By the way this is such a pleasure seeing all those old coma usernames around here !

I think it's not. Release date is supposed to be 11th of April while RSD it's on the 12th (Saturday). Close anyway.

I don't think there's nothing they can do now. They will stick with the marketing plan wtv were planing to do. Maybe it's like you say. I wonder if releasing singles would work the same way they did with the S/T.

"the leak" is so ingrained in how this fanbase gets all spooled up that it wouldn't surprise me if "a couple of nerds listening early" is exactly how you get the media (social and otherwise) to pounce on your next press release.

I don't even know which track would work as a single. Cue the sun ? Voice in my knives maybe ?
As much as the drums are pretty forgettable on this album, the bass really shines. Wonder if it's Eva playing.
edit : yeah forgot about Un disparo del vacio, this one would do great. Damn this is awesome.
