LP8
Re: LP8
Feel like it's about moving on from traumatic events. 'Cue The Sun' may be about making sure you ensure there's joy in your life because the mask you wear to protect you in harsh times can eat away at you. 'Voice In My Knives' seems to also be about how the darkness can take you over and you can't look away, about being careful 'what festers in your heart' etc. Maybe that's a bit too surface-level of a reading tho
ALSO does anyone else feel like the sounds leading into Lucro Sucio are similar to the sounds in the intro of Frances The Mute? Is it a reference? It also being at the end of the album like FtM would have been, does it mean that it is a 'decoder track'?!

Re: LP8
I can't wait until we get an official release and hopefully lyrics with the vinyl so I can dig way deeper, but I do feel a general balance of light and darkness on this album. Even the titles Mictlán (Aztec underworld) and Nefilibata (cloudwalker) gives a heaven & hell / light & dark vibe.djzap wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 11:45 am Feel like it's about moving on from traumatic events. As for FtM, are you talking about the single? Because I've always been under the impression the single was supposed to be the real first track before Cygnus - the sarcophagi acoustic bits being teased at the end but distorted and covered up, and the "this never happened" implying the rest of the album was a response or a coverup to silence the Frances character.

for real finally getting the record in my hands is going to be a glorious dayG.O.Dayz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 12:45 pmI can't wait until we get an official release and hopefully lyrics with the vinyl so I can dig way deeper, but I do feel a general balance of light and darkness on this album. Yeah I do mean the single. I don't know why but I always considered it to come at the end! Then the Sarcophagi bits are bookending the album (almost like the entire album is contained WITHIN SARCOPHAGI?! i just realised that lol), or also using the concept you describe the events of the album occur and then are covered up, you first experience the album and are then told 'this never happened'.
Re: LP8
Well it does actually bookend perfectly on the album proper without the single, so I think the "encasing it in a sarcophagus" idea still applies. I never tried listening to it the other way I feel like I would have a hard time listening to 3 min of bells after Cassandra lol
Re: LP8
oh you're dead right, you know it's been a little while since i've listened to FtM in full. Maybe it's time to revisit it heheG.O.Dayz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:46 pm Well it does actually bookend perfectly on the album proper without the single, so I think the "encasing it in a sarcophagus" idea still applies. Re: LP8
Now that everyone has got the leak this place falls dead again
Can we at least have a sterile conversation like ranking tracks from lucro sucio before it's too late ?
I love Maullidos

Re: LP8
I reached a point where I felt I was listening to the album too much and I still want it to feel fresh when the official release happens. Hopefully some official art and lyrics will fuel more conversation. For now my favorite is Poseedora de mi Sombra/Celaje though. Feels the "newest" sounding with some cool futuristic vibes.

Yes I came for a delicious PM but I’ll be around geeking out sporadically. Hopefully a new wave is brewing around actual release.
Ranking tracks is tough, it (mostly) flows so nicely I keep enjoying listening the whole way through
but I have a lot of favorite moments so far, tops are:
“I can’t love you like you want”
The build and ensuing guitar on “I never knew the depths you’d sink to…”
Pretty much all the drums but particularly those the slow drum builds (there’s probably a cool musical name for it I don’t know) on Nefilibata
How hard “Today I’m in control” hits
Re: LP8
I am actually delighted to see more replies in here this morning haha I was worried that was it then... I am in love with the album but found myself listening to it multiple times a day and had to impose some limits so I didn't wear it out. I do that naturally enough these days because I have spoiled albums on myself by over-listening to them. I'm pro-actively protecting it for myself because it's so dope. I have found myself exploring ORL solo and TMV back catalogue again to fill the space, hence the ORL remasters I've been posting. Working on some Vato Negro tunes now as well and maybe some live Noctourniquet stuff next.
In terms of Lucro Sucio definitely one of the peak moments on the album for me is Poseedora de mi sombra. The vocoder!! So hip hop with an avant garde edge, and then how it dips out for the slow verses in Celaje and comes back is so fucking good. Also wanna shout out Detrás de la puerta dorada which is proper ORL solo type oddness that I did not expect.

Re: LP8
I am still loving the album but have also been trying to stay away from it before the official release.
I'm totally in agreement about Poseedora - the beat is so great and so hip hop, would love to see Omar explore more in that direction in the future.

I’ve been listening to it everyday. I can’t help myself.
This is the best album post Goliath. Honestly, I’m enjoying this more than Goliath.

Re: LP8
It has been quite difficult to curb my need to just down right binge on this album. I have been listening to all the previous LPs to keep from burning out from listening to Lucro and I have made it to Que Dios already. Listening back to the previous lps I am reminding just how amazing they are all over again but another strange comes over, just how (dare I say) dated they feel so guitar-heavy compared to Lucro. That being said, Its hard for me to rank Lucro compared to the "big 3". All I can say at this point after a couple of dozen listens (headphones, car, bose speaker), I like it better than S/T and I really love S/T. I am still excited for their announcement to make this release official. I just can't wait to get my hands on the vinyl to hear how it sounds!

Re: LP8
lol we're all the same - I try to listen only every other day. I already was in a long volta phase before Lucro Sucio came out... I reaaaaally really like LS but it feels like I already know too much how it will flow, while with S/T, with the songs being short and more diverse, it took me longer to memorized the album and am sometimes still surprised by a song I forgot would be there.
I think, while I really appreciate every idea contained in LS, I do miss a memorable, heavy headbobbing track toward the end of the album, like a Reina Tormenta (reprise). I love Reina Tormenta, it makes me think of a future pop noctourniquet. Haven't seen much talking about this track but it's a great way to open the album after Fin and I'd love to find this energy before "This I know", which is cool and all but very slow.

Re: LP8
I see the first three tracks as one song but that middle section is a cool switchup for sure. That entire three track run is such a cool opener and feels like it's picking up where Noctourniquet left off while simultaneously reconnecting with the latin-forward sounds. Like "self titled was us dipping our toes in the water of making new stuff again and doing that pop album we always threatened to do but now we have a new killer band again so let's get down to business." Def reminds me of the Nocto era Volta/ORLG jams with Deantoni like the later era Jacob jam.
Re: LP8
If I have any one lingering bone to pick it's just that while I respect Omar sitting back and letting the rest of the band play and not needing the guitar to overpower everything, it just seems like he's not all that inspired to do anything new or evocative on guitar. I appreciate Leo going off on sax and Marcel being a synth wizard all the more because without that this album would feel a little lacking I think. The bass also does a lot of the heavy lifting too with cool dynamics and some choice fills at key moments but like in the mid/high range lead wise the guitar is almost always just vibing underneath everything. If there's any one thing I wanna see on future stuff if they do more is Omar having fun on guitar again doing some confusing novel shit. On the tour he was doing some interesting whammy bar stuff so hopefully he gets inspired again - or at least gives Frusciante a call lol

That one guy on the Facebook group who keeps saying he made the leak with AI is actually so constant with his posts that a few people actually believe him and it's doing my head in. Actually feel like I just need to leave that group at this stage because of it! So annoying. I feel like the part about it I actually hate most is that he might be convincing people that AI can make something like this ;-;
also yes heavy noctourniquet vibes from Reina tormenta! could imagine Deantoni doing some madness on that.

AI is nowhere near good enough to do this. Not even close.BallsMcGrath wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:43 pmIt’s very annoying and had me questioning it for a moment as well. He’s very persistent. Re: LP8
It's actually crazy to see how one person can sow so much doubt. Like, there's this air of 'who knows if there's a real or AI album' when the question was literally created by one person, or maybe a few people. Even when shown solid stuff like the many record store pre-orders etc. the response can be like 'I guess we'll see!' haha ffs. I gotta say if it's a Cloud Hill tactic or even this one guy's effort at driving people away from looking for the leak, then they're doing a good job.

Plus if someone were to make an AI album and roll it out like this, I’m sure it would sound more like the first few records.

Anyone else getting The Flaming Lips- The Terror/Oczy Mlody vibes from the new album?
Re: LP8
I know this is off topic but since this is where we're all chatting I just wanna say I'm real excited to show you all something I've been working on for the past week that I'm not sure has ever been done quite like this before: a re-mix / re-master of the 25 min Jacob Jam from the 2011 Highline Ballroom show that I've managed (through great effort, trial and error) to make sound like a soundboard recording. The source is the taped recording of that gig that has been going around since it went down, and I used a whole bunch of different machine learning models to split it into separate parts that I could mix. I was then able to use sample augmentation on the drums to make them sound close to studio quality. Absolutely mad what can be done now with the right tools and knowing how to use them.
