I made a 12 track version of the album with gaps removed. I analyzed the original leak and each track has a bit of silence at the start of each track which shouldnt be there

People really hearing 12 songs? It's ten; maybe 10.5 if you count the beginning of Cue the Sun (Reprise) as it's own thing before it goes right back into the Morgana chorus.

1-3 = 1
4&5 = 2
6&7 = 3
8 = 4
9&10 = 5
11 = 6
12-14 = 7
15 = 8
16&17 = 9
18 = 10

That's what I hear anyway.

If I remember correctly this was a Matt Bittman statement regarding one of the ORL massive 2016 releases. I always assumed this was about Killing Tingled Lifting Retreat.

There’s something called “gapless playback” where all the tracks play without gaps. The version I have is gapless where I don’t hear a space or gaps in between tracks. I couldn’t find a single track version, I don’t think that exists.

Holy shit, bro you just closed my gap so tight! Thank you!

Can't believe it was that simple.

Has anyone reversed the speech on the last track yet???

Update: I just played it backwards, at around 90 seconds in he says
Go whet your grave
Labyrinth we're lost in
The home of the bear
Home(hole?) in the water
I'm not very good at transcribing lyrics though, so I could be wrong. If you have ffmpeg on your computer, you can reverse the mp3 with this command:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i (filename) -af areverse reversed.mp3

Listened through 2 times so far. Very interesting. To me it’s like a cross between their last album and some of the more out there older stuff. I’m really digging Cedric’s vocals on a few of the tracks. I live his falsetto but I wish he’d explore more of the lower registers of his voice.
this never happened

Yeah, I love when he gets low on Lucros Sucio. It definitely gives that dark Luciforms vibe

Something I note about this album is the heavy and prominent use of vocal fx, probably more so on this album than any other since DitC?
I feel like after watching If This Ever Gets Weird that the vocal processing was a core tenet of early TMV in some way to them, and that might be part of the 'harkening back to their roots' on this album.

Also god damn this album just keeps growing and growing on me. It's so addictive and so good.

Yup exactly my thoughts from first listen. This, the chaotic, impredictable structure, plus salsa and dub music are the links to their roots on this album. They left punk on the way but I guess after watching the doc the reasons they did so are a bit obvious (+ they're fifty lol).

I wonder if this is some sort of pre-master of the album, considering the early leak and the quite bass heavy sound to it. The ST record was also bass heavy but not really in this way, it still felt quite crisp and balanced where this sounds a little muted.

By the way the current leak is a transcode, just to be aware. It seems like the initial leak may have been a single MP3 128kbps of the whole album, which is low quality enough. Then someone seems to have used that and split it into the 18 tracks, re-encoding it to 320kbps MP3. So it's going to be slightly worse quality than the original 128kbps single MP3 version (which I don't think is really making the rounds out there like the split version). If you look at the spectrograph for the MP3 it cuts off pretty hard at 16kHz with just occasional bits of noise above that which is indicative of a 128kbps MP3.

I've set up this EQ for it that sounds quite nice IMO in case anyone else wants to try it out.

I've been interpreting the album concept as involving spirit mediums/divination of some kind, and the prominent vocal fx being a sort of tell that something is speaking through the protagonist at times. Could also be completely offbase and it's just done to sound cool - sounds cool either way!

I haven't really started trying to make out lyrics but settling with the instrumentals, I love this thing more every listen. It's almost like a puzzle; between the way the tracks are broken up, the way the leak was split up from one long track, the artwork, and some stray lyrics I've caught, it evokes Pangea to me - broken pieces made up of one original whole.

I like your puzzle interpretation !
I don't get much from what Cedric sings, only a few words here and there, but it seems the labyrinth is a recuring theme and it fits well with this album confusing structure, songs repeating themselves like you'd backtrack or be lost and go around on circles.
I also think there's some sort of analogy between the maze and the mind.
